Today was a good day
Ice Cube had it right in his song.
Today was a good day.
I didn't even have to use my AK.
We got a Christmas tree up today and got it decorated. For a technical kind of guy I'm kinda retarded when it comes to the whole Christmas thing. My wife is setting up the tree and she's obviously getting all wrapped up in the moment.
Don't misunderstand me I love my family but I don't think I'd get all "George Bailey" giddy. I mean it's pretty but it's a fire hazard with glass ornaments and lots of eye gouging wires with faux needles waiting to blind my 2 year old.
Maybe this is why she says I'm a robot with no emotions. Is that a fair assessment of my emotion state. Hell no. I cried like a baby when I watched my first Thunderbird Processor burst into flame right in from of me. I just turned it on to see if it would post and I had neglected the BOLD print warning
I delivered another client system today for my budding new computer business. To date that's four clients happy as hell.
My only problem now is I don't know what I should charge for work. I've looked at what the major retailers charge and those prices seem kind of high. I know what my job charges for support so I'm trying to find that happy middle ground. I charged 50 bucks for the work I did tonight and I think that's a steal but I did catch the momentary "WTF did he just say the price would be?" look.
I offered to return when and hook up their new equipment at no charge (monitor, memory module, and graphics card). I would hope that after that I get a chance to drop the normal charges for that kind of work. I mean I give pick up and delivery service or in house service at no additional charge!
I just hope that they are happy with my service and will refer me to someone else. This is the first client that I've ever had off a straight referral.
Now I just need to work out some kind of pricing structure and I guess I need to make real clear what I'll charge up front to avoid that "deer in the headlights" look.
I also setup my www.textamerica.com account tonight. I'm going to test it out for a couple days before I cross link the site. They've got a pretty cool service where you can upload your pics or videos from your cameraphone. I can't wait since now I could take a picture of what a serial port looks like or the even better, I could post a picture of the IDE ribbon cable and say now pull this one out not that one!
I'm downing a bottle of beringers white zin right now trying to get into the Christmas Spirit. I hope you do all your shopping online this year and avoid the screaming masses you'll find at the malls and retail stores.
Last year I did over half my shopping online and got almost every gift before Christmas. This year my wife wants to more traditional shopping since she doesn't believe that we'd get things delivered on time if we go www this year. So I guess I'm screwed and will probably end up going postal scouring the parking lots for empty spots at the local mall.
See you on the flipside and look out for picture posts. I'll probably upload all my co-workers pics as a Christmas gift. I'll probably end up posting a pic of Brad Pitt instead of me since he's just a little better looking. :)
Posted by Jeff probably at some unseemingly late hour past his kids bedtime.

Oh well, we all learn best from our own mistakes. I can now say that I am the proud owner of some artic thermal paste and I buy high end chip coolers for my CPU now!
Do not neglect to properly mount your cooling fan and use thermal paste or tape to ensure adequate cooling
